Working and Parenting COVID 19

Parenting and working have been a struggle for me for the past 14 years.  Fortunately, I have been working from home for 12 years.  I am able to work flexible hours.  For instance, I work after business hours during the week and weekends.  I search for qualified job seekers any time of day or night.  As a I write, it is 7:10 PM.

Our school district has completed five weeks of distance learning during COVID 19.  I am facing new challenges.  Completing recruiting tasks  while our boys have school assignments at home creates an entirely new level of stress!  I have found that time management is a key point.  My son’s teacher presents a task list for his assignments.  I have found this concept to be useful.  I am writing lists for myself in terms of recruiting.

I believe that the COVID 19 crisis will motivate employers to consider remote work and flexible schedules.

How are you managing to complete work while helping your children with distance learning at home?  What are ideas that you have as parents to cope with the summer when school is no longer in session and our kids are home?

Recruiting during COVID 19

The COVID 19 pandemic has caused 22 million Americans to file for unemployment.  This is a  massive number of Americans who are suddenly unemployed.

I survived recruiting during September 11, 2001 and the recession that followed.  At the time, the pharmaceutical industry was recession proof.  I successfully placed statistical analysts and biostatisticians with major pharmaceutical companies throughout the US.

Today, April 2020, during COVID 19, I am confident that there are industries such as healthcare and food production that are hiring information technology and analytical professionals.

During my recruiting career of over 20 years, I have placed information technology and analytical professionals who have been unemployed.  My greatest reward is helping an intelligent IT or analytical professional find a challenging career opportunity.

As I experience the Stay-at-Home order issued by our Wisconsin governor, Tony Evers, I sincerely believe that there is hiring taking place right now!

Tight Labor Market

Economic activity continued to increase at a modest to moderate pace, according to the Federal Reserve Board’s latest report on regional economies (known as the “beige book”). Employment growth increased modestly to moderately, but tight labor markets were widespread. Employers had difficulty finding qualified workers across skill levels. Wage growth was modest or moderate, with increases most notable for hard-to-fill professional, technical, and production positions.
Currently, we are experiencing an increase in economic activity and a tight labor market. I have found that when the economy is good, it is challenging to find the outstanding talent or job seekers. I invest countless hours searching for highly qualified candidates with specific technical skill sets. As mentioned above, employers had difficulty finding qualified workers across skill levels. Job Growth

According to The New York Times Friday, December 8, 2017 Evening Briefing, the latest jobs report showed the unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent, the lowest since 2000, as the nation added to payrolls for the 86th consecutive month. Since companies are in a hiring mode, it is a great time for highly skilled professionals to change employers to advance in their professions. During my twenty years of recruiting, I have developed sources and tools that allow me to contact those professionals. I would appreciate the opportunity to present your analytical and information technology hiring needs for their consideration.

Changes in H1B Visa Rules

When I was a Recruiter for Comsys between 1997-1999 in Chicagoland, we processed the H1B Visas of IT professionals with mainframe programming and database skills. At the time, there was a Y2K push. In my opinion, we hired the best and the brightest IT professionals. I was the Recruiter who greeted them when they arrived to the US from India at O’Hare airport. I worked with a relocation company to help them find housing. The IT professionals who obtain H1 B Visas are highly educated and believe in the importance of a college education. In turn, their children will be future leaders with college degrees and move the economy of the United States forward.
